Our Crops

Abbett farms focuses on the production of high value crops:

  • 525 acres of processing tomatoes
  • 350 acres of seed corn
  • 220 acres of green beans (two crops are produced each year)
  • 1,800 to 2,000 acres of commercial corn and soybeans
  • Growing high value crops
    • They have been using Roundup Ready® soybeans since 1996.
    • Also use stacked trait seed corn
    • Use gird sampling and variable rate applications of fertilizers to get plant nutrients in the places that they are most needed

Seed Corn raised for Remington Hybrids — Remington, Indiana

4 to 1 - 4 female rows to 1 male row. Detasseling happens in July. Female is detasseled by the seed company.

Field Corn 650 Plant April 20 - May 1
Harvest Oct. 10 - Oct. 31

Most of the field corn is Roundup Ready®. Delivered to local elevators to be planted and harvested by the grower.

Tomato 600 Plant May 5 - June 15
Harvest Aug. 10 - Oct. 5

Raised for Red Gold — Elwood, Indiana

Raised for making ketchup, juices and whole peeled. Plants are transplanted using a 35 ft./14 row custom-built planter made by Abbett Farms. Machine harvested and processed within 24 hours of picking.

Roundup Ready® soybeans. Soybeans are harvested and delivered to a processor in Lafayette, Indiana.
